Patterns and Vexations

There are people who we should not be around. Their energy reminds us of someone in our past, they set us on edge. Our experience and memory tells us that we should not stay close because of what they do to us. Our bodies know that it is not healthy. In the past we have pulled out our hair, bit our tongue and/or divorced these people depending on their proximity to our lives.

One of my favourite radio personalities on CKUA was talking this week about family patterns. Baba eloquently stated that "family patterns can haunt you and follow you, but that you don't have to be a slave to them".

Identifying the triggers of your learned patterns will create ease in your decision to keep some distance. Do you have a history of being bullied, or dismissed and ignored? Do people who get under your skin, resemble in fact or character someone from your past? Do they disturb you?

These reminders happen to show us how much we have grown. We are now honouring ourselves! We do  not need to feel guilt because guess what? We don't have to like everyone, just as they don't have to like us, it's just that simple.

Now we are different and we know. We can recognize that certain personalities do not need to be let in. We now have the authority to keep our distance and not allow them the control of our emotions.

Ever so often, I pull out my copy of the Desiderata, as Max Ehrmann says "Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexatious to the spirit." It is a reminder to each of us to honour who we are for it is not necessary to allow someone into your life who disturbs your essence.
