Down the Road

It is Fall, my birthday time

How I look forward to the day
When I can languish over a cup of coffee
Sit on my porch
Watch the fallen leaves swirl around my feet.

Wrap myself in a blanket, wear warm socks
Laugh at the squirrels
As they play and hide in my garden
Scribble words in my notebook

I should be so fortunate
To live well until that day

For now, I will still participate
Offer back my lessons
Share what I have
Give of my time and energy
Could it really be better?

And the day to sit on my porch will happen soon enough.
