Thoughts About Words, Words About Thoughts - mini #NaNoWriMo

Intro: It's that time again when writers of all flavours pick up their tool of choice and get writing. I am not able to commit this year but thought I would try something different. NaNoWriMo will happen for me in May, or June, or July. If you continue to follow along you'll find out why.

Anyone who follows me here (thank you for your private messages that basically told me to get off my a**) knows that I have been missing. Missing the opportunity, coming up with excuses and sorely lacking in words.

But this has ended.

With the month of #NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) upon us, even those faint of heart are excited and at least cheering fans of those who will be MIA for the next 30 days.

My mini NaNoWriMo will be about writing. Thoughts about words, words about thoughts that flit through each of our minds. Sometimes when we least expect it. Sometimes pounding us down as we reach for a spare paper napkin on the adjoining table at a restaurant (because ours was spotted with smudges of garlic toast and spaghetti sauce).

When I started writing my blog, I had planned to pen just a few inspiring words that would reach you. Then somehow, I got caught up with SEOs, which kind of social media gave

me the most fans, affiliate links (that have basically paid me nothing) and strangers to keep in touch with when I barely have time to spend with my closest friends. Somewhere along the way, I got lost.

Thinking about the joy of writing, of creating a thought that could cheer someone's day is all I ever wanted. So, starting today I am going backward to find what I lost. Oh, there have been many good posts written from my heart, wonderful comments, smiles and encouraging words and those are the ones that mean the most to me. I am forever grateful.

This month you will see more. I am planning to write every day, oh my gosh, I said that out loud. I wrote that on this "paper" for you to see. I will do my best to not disappoint, here we go.

Nov 1 - The Things We Know

We are all good and not so good, we are all deserving of miracles and deserving of what we get because of what we hand out. We are all blind to our faults and carry our stories as a burden or as a release.

So when I start a story, who do I put in? How do I know who to hurt and who to make a hero? Because every character, just like everyone we meet is complicated. As an author, I struggle, how can I be so biased, so hurtful. How do I hand out disasters and horrible characteristics to these strangers?

And then an odd thing happens, these names in print, these voices I hear become real people. Something like an old friend, something like an annoying co-worker. Don’t piss me off, I say, you could end up in one of my stories, I might even use your name. I am merciless in print, I am kind in person, but there is an evil part of me that likes to inflict to see how you as a character will respond. Surprise me, why don’t you?

We will get to know each other so well, you will see when I am tired and writing in circles. You will see me fueled by good coffee (or good cognac) depending on the hour and feeling so very creative. Look for me in hidden corners, eavesdropping. You will see me at my best, you will hate me at my worst because it’s NaNoWriMo and I’m coming to get you.
