Celebrate Accomplishment - Smell the Flowers

Don't hurry, don't worry.
You're only here for a short visit.
So be sure to stop and smell the flowers.

Walter Hagen

Simple, right? NO!

Everyday someone says that they don't get to the things that they truly want to do. The things that they yearn to do. Most of us have to first meet the demands of our boss, our household, a partner, or our children.

We all have dreams, some we're working on, some are way down the road still simmering in our minds... waiting out time. We deserve each moment as Zen Habits reminds us, even in our hurrying moments, let's not forget to smell the flowers. Let's fit ourselves in too.

Each day we accomplish, we might not notice that we've actually moved ahead because we are too busy getting to our next "thing" whatever it might be. But what about pausing once in a while to jot it down in a notebook, this act in itself will allow us to smell the roses. We did it! Now celebrate.

You might not be one for broadcasting your highlights on social media, you're just not of that ilk. Attention makes some of us squirm. Or you might enjoy it, so go for it I say. Just always remember, that everyone seeing your post has also reached a goal that day. Sometimes just finishing the day is all that someone gets to celebrate. (Tweet This)

We're all allowed to smell the roses. (Tweet This)

Give yourself that moment. Then share what you've learned by encouraging others, you might not get as many followers/hits/retweets but you will get the satisfaction. I promise.

Keep looking. When you find it, make it better.  ©

Pacing

Pacing your accomplishments could be one of the hardest things in our journey. When we want to move ahead, it should happen, right? Wrong!

For some, focusing on moving ahead can be a battle that takes all our resources, all our time, and oftentimes all our humour.

Can we lose the "extra 10, 20, 30" pounds we've (oops!) accumulated, by a quick-fix remedy? Some magical turning back of the clock. But is our over-the-top remedy of drastic calorie reduction sustainable? Can we commit to a half-marathon, or the "Goofy" (January 2012, Disneyland) without lacing up our runners on a (very) regular basis?

Each step we take to "get there", needs to focus on the joy of being where we are. As Joe Vitale said in The Key, "How much good can you stand?"; enjoy and appreciate the present moment, because the next one is on its way. I believe that when we know that each little goal gets us to the BIG one, we can celebrate each plateau along the path. Don't sabotage yourself by giving up. We need to realize that our momentum may ebb and flow but always we are carried forward in the direction of our choice.

Life experience has taught me to balance and be patient. It might take longer but it will so be worth the wait. And then one day, you're sitting cross-legged in your yoga class and you surprise even yourself when you are able to lift you own body weight.
